Comment 1 – Lauren
The first beta i commented on was Laurens, who is using their DA to speak about the positive effects that games can have on its players. This is being done by investigating experiences with nintendogs, a game a lot of people played in their childhood. I commented that i enjoyed her DA and the fact she was using audience feedback to keep a clear direction to her work. I felt like she was already drawing on subject materials well, so i offered her some research on how video games may be improving literacy in children as another example of the positive effects that games can have. I feel like this comment has improved over my past ones as i am a lot more direct and to the point in this comment.
Comment 2 – Jett
Jett’s DA looks at game re-makes and the good and bad examples of it. Jett has started by having friends play Crash Bandicoot and documenting their experience and thoughts on the game. My comment talked about how i enjoyed his DA so far and i suggested that, as he wanted to look into more remakes, he try Spyro and the re-masters of old Mario games that have just been released.
I suggested that Jett look into a paper that is linked in the subject as reading for week 11. This paper talked about Nostalgia and Retro Gaming’s effects in modern day. I feel as if this will help Jett’s analytic framework in his final posts. I feel like this comment improved over past ones as i offered a more academic source then i did in previous rounds of comments.
Comment 3 – Elena
Elena is looking at Kingdom Hearts monsters and attempting to categorise them into the different types of pokemon. She has started this already and is planning on creating a team of monsters, like one would if they were playing Pokemon. I commented that i really enjoyed her idea and seeing what she had done so far. I suggested that maybe Elena could expand on the creation of the team by talking about the purpose of the team. Would this imagery battle she was preparing for be more rounded like she was fighting the Elite Four or specialised like it was a Gym Leader Battle?
I also mentioned that Elena had done a good job of connecting her work to the subject materials and readings, so i instead offered her some research on Pokemon types colourings that would hopefully help her in justifying why she placed each monster under each type category. Just like with Jett’s post, I feel like this comment improved over past ones as i offered a more academic source then i did in previous rounds of comments.
What did I get out of this experience?
This experience of commenting on my peers work has helped me in thinking more analytically about the posts that i see from my peers about their work, but also encouraged me to think more analytically about my own work, and make sure i am being clear in my content delivery.
